The Super Lawyers® selection process works as follows:
Nomination
A lawyer can enter the candidate pool in either one of three ways. First, they can be formally nominated by a peer. Second, the attorney-led staff at Super Lawyers® can identify a worthy candidate by reviewing proprietary databases, national and local trade publications, and reputable online sources. Third, a lawyer can be informally nominated by clients, marketing directors, and others who are not actively licensed to practice law in the same jurisdiction as the nominee.
Independent Research
The research department at Super Lawyers® thoroughly evaluates each member of the candidate pool with respect to 12 indicators. These are verdicts and settlements, transactions, representative clients, experience, honors and awards, special licenses and certifications, position within their firm, bar association involvement, pro bono activity, scholarly endeavors, educational background, and other outstanding achievements.
Peer Evaluation
The next step section process is called blue ribbon review. The Super Lawyers® candidates with the highest point totals from steps one and two above are provided a list of lawyers from their individual practice areas and are then tasked with rating these lawyers on a scale of one to five.
Final Selection
In the final step, a representative number of lawyers from small, medium, and large law firms are selected for final inclusion as Super Lawyers®. Prior to publishing, each candidate is personally asked whether they have been subject to any disciplinary or criminal proceedings, and secondly whether all publicly available information about them is accurate.
