The LACMTA Purple Line Subway Extension Project, Section 3

The Purple Line Extension in Los Angeles will provide an alternative for travel between downtown and Westwood. Construction of the Purple Line Extension is underway and expected to be completed by 2028 when Los Angeles hosts the Summer Olympics.

 I-405 Improvement Project

There’s no question that traffic can be a nightmare running down I-405 in Orange County. In response to the growing congestion and traffic concerns, OCTA is busy making changes to the highway in order to reduce the gridlock while also increasing resident safety. The I-405 improvement project is ambitious, spanning 16 miles and costing nearly $2 billion. While the widening project may ease traffic concerns, the property and business owners located along the freeway fear losing their properties or businesses through eminent domain proceedings.

State Route 55 (SR-55) Widening Project

That portion of SR 55 located in Orange County, between Interstate 5 (I-5) and Interstate 405 (I-405), is one of the most heavily traveled highways in the nation, with approximately 295,000 people driving this stretch of the freeway on a daily basis. Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) in conjunction with Caltrans and the corridor cities have begun a project to widen the highway to increase traffic flow.

The I-5 Expansion In South County

The Orange County Transportation Authority and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) are working in partnership to improve Interstate 5 between State Route 73 and El Toro Road. This 6.5-mile stretch of interstate is traveled by approximately 360,000 motorists each day with traffic volumes expected to increase 25% by 2045. To accommodate the higher demand, OCTA and Caltrans are implementing a freeway-widening project that is expected to take roughly six years to complete in three phases.

McKinley Grade Separation Project In The City Of Corona

In 2021, the city of Corona is expected to begin construction on the McKinley Grade Separation Project. It is a massive improvement project in excess of $90 million where the city of Corona will raise McKinley Street over Sampson Avenue and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway to reduce traffic congestion at this location when the railroad gates are down.

The I-10 Expansion Project

The San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) and the California Department of Transportation have invested nearly $1 billion to add two express lanes in each direction of the Interstate 10 freeway between the Los Angeles County line and Ford Street in the city of Redlands. The Project is 33 miles in length and divided into two phases. The first phase runs through the cities of Montclair, Upland and Ontario, and is approximately 10 miles in length located between the Los Angeles County line and Interstate 15. The second phase of this project will continue from I-15 to the city of Redlands.
